When was the last time you sat and watched the clouds drift by?
Or when you watched the leaves dance on the trees as the wind flowed through them?
How about listening to the birds and hearing other birds call back?
And settling down to watch the waves flow and change direction as obstacles appear?
Pretty much, I’m asking you to reflect on times you’ve actually sat and observed nature. It’s a practice I love, as nature truly moves and heals us. Yesterday, I was working in my adorable community library, sitting in my favorite spot. I sit in front of a window looking out at the bay and see the beautiful trees and wetland shrubs, along with an osprey in her nest. I love this spot because when I needed a break, I could look out and watch the clouds and the leaves dance in the breeze. I was also able to take a short walk to eat my PB&J and listened to the osprey calling out. I took off my shoes and went barefoot in the grass, feeling like a child again, basking in the sun without a care in the world. It felt so good to be so present with nature. The best part? When I went back to my computer to work, I felt more focused, productive, and inspired. During my time in nature, I found clarity in the work I was doing. I actually took longer breaks outside because I was able to focus on the goals I wanted to set for myself and define the tasks needed to get there. I felt alive, proactive, and my spark reignited, all because I decided to listen, observe, and find peace in my little library’s beautiful backyard.
The library itself is filled with pleasant staff who check in on you and are genuinely happy you are there. I took a few walking breaks as I was there for quite some time. I discovered they have a whole craft makers lab, a Lego club and displays for kids, and activities for all ages. So, this is your sign to visit your local library to work or take your children! I loved taking my little sister to the library when I was a Big for Big Brothers Big Sisters. They have tons of cool things to rent out and work on. Also, it’s a nice place to focus without feeling like you have to spend money. As much as I love the idea of working from home, having done it for five years, I find there are so many distractions there. So, finding this library to work in, with its nature-filled backyard, has been a blessing!

Get out this weekend and observe nature, or go on a short, distraction-free walk and enjoy feeling present!
Peace & Love, Erica
P.S. I’ll be at the Outside Festival next week! If you are going to be there let’s connect.
